The Bruma line-up poster: a pink hand-drawn cloud over electric blue with a column of tiny creatures

Bruma means mist. The festival sits at 2,600 metres, where cloud rolls over the main stage at dawn, and the organisers wanted an identity that looks like that hour.

The ask

A first edition with two stages, 38 artists and 4,000 tickets, on sale in ten weeks. One identity had to work as a poster in the street, a wristband in the dark and a sign in a pine forest.

What I made

A cloud drawn in one brush stroke, in pink over electric blue, repeated at three sizes. Every artist got their own small creature grown out of the cloud, 38 in all, used on the line-up poster and the wristbands. Wayfinding is a blue board with a pink cloud pointing the way.

How it landed

Tickets sold out nine days before the gates opened. The line-up poster went up in Roma Norte a week early and kept disappearing off the walls, so we printed 300 more as a two-colour riso run.

“The poster went up on a Monday. By Friday people were peeling it off the wall to keep.”
