Three ice pops in their wrappers on a pink backdrop, each wrapper a single hand-drawn fruit

Nieve de Barrio makes paletas the slow way, with fruit bought at the market that morning. The owners wanted it to look like the shop on your corner, not like a franchise.

The ask

Three branches, three different signs and a stack of wrappers printed from a template. They needed one look that could be painted on a wall, printed on a wrapper and folded into a paper cone.

What I made

Pink for everything, plus one green leaf as the mark. Twelve wrappers, each a single fruit in two colours, from mango con chile to tamarindo. Beto and I painted the menu boards by hand in each shop, and the wordmark is drawn to look like it is carved from an ice-pop stick.

How it landed

The three shops now look like one shop. A fourth opened in September with the same boards, painted in two days, and parents keep asking for the wrappers for birthday parties, so there is now a party box.

“A kid brought a wrapper back to the counter and asked if we had the other eleven.”
